Bridges
It was a week ago today that I crossed over the George Washington bridge to head home after the Army Navy game. I snapped this picture as we were heading to the airport on a cloudy December morning.
And the picture of the bridge wouldn’t leave me. It resonated deep inside of me, because in many ways I feel like this is where I’m at - I’m on the bridge.
Crossing over from what was, to what will be, and yet all the while enjoying the beauty of the moment. Honestly, I don’t have this season of my life all figured out yet. I’m working two jobs that I love, and I don’t have a great rhythm.
I feel like when I saw the bridge God was reminding me that I’m not God. I don’t have to have it all figured out. I just need to be faithful.
When Jesus called the disciples to “follow me,” he never actually told them where the final destination was going to be. He just told them He was going to make them “fisher’s of men.” And yet, they carried on, they took one step after another finding out the path through obedience.
I think, if you follow Christ long enough He is going to take you across some bridges in your life. This time of year you might recognize that you are on one right now.
I guess I just wanted to encourage you (and remind myself) this morning: You don’t need to know what’s on the other side to enjoy the bridge. You don’t need to know the final destination. And you certainly don’t need to know how it’s all going to work out.
Just step out on the bridge, appreciate that’s where you are, and continue to follow Christ.
One day, and one bridge at a time!
